The Property

The Folly and estate as well as offering a magnificent venue for fairytale weddings, corporate events and exclusive celebrations, the family are committed to preserving the castle and grounds for future generations.

This private 5,500-acre estate with magnificent buildings, follies, fountains, woodland gardens and rolling valley views, makes the perfect backdrop to wedding photographs and a special day.

Inside

  • Style: A regal country estate decked out in lavish antiques, period artwork and plush furnishings.
  • The Ceremony: There are three elegant rooms licensed for civil ceremonies - The Library (seating 20), The Red Room (seating 80) or the West Wing (seating up to 100). Larger parties of up to 300 guests can be accommodated in a marquee on the West Lawn. From 2010 the Satyr's Temple by the stream in the woodland gardens, will also be licensed for intimate civil ceremonies.
  • The Reception: Sit down or buffet meals can be provided for up to 20, 80 or 100 guests, depending on the chosen location of the wedding. Marquees can also be erected on the West Lawn, for parties of up to 150 guests. A list of marquee hire companies can be provided.
  • For relaxation: Enjoy traditional country house hospitality in opulent reception rooms and the light-flooded garden room.
  • For recreation: Lose yourself in the lush grounds -horse riding, fishing and walking can be enjoyed in the private 5,500-acre estate.
  • Practicalities: The property is fully staffed with a butler, chef and housekeeper.A list of local florists, photographers, bands and discos can be recommended for your special day.

Outside

The castle is situated in a private 5,500-acre estate boasting rolling parkland, verdant woodland, follies and beautifully manicured gardens. Here guests can wander through the Xa Tollemache Milliennium Garden, woodland abloom with of magnolias, camellias, rhododendrons and azaleas, and carpets of bluebells and primroses. The gardens, hailed as some of the finest in Devon, are open to the public from April to September.

Food and wine

  • In-house cuisine: The owners will provide a comprehensive list of first-class wedding caterers who will use the finest local ingredients to create a bespoke wedding breakfast according to your budgets and requirements. Sample wedding menus are available on request.Guests may provide their own wines and champagne, which will be subject to a corkage charge Your in-house chef will provide delicious homemade fare created using local produce and ingredients plucked directly from the estate. 
  • Eating out: Tables can be booked at a number of nearby restaurants famed for their local culinary fare. In the local village is The Stags Head with traditional food or head a bit further to South Molton which has a  huge choice of dining.

  • On the map: Located in north Devon close to South Molton
  • By car: About 3.5 hours from London
  • By train: The nearest train stations are Umberleigh (about 5 miles away) and Barnstaple (about 9 miles away). Tiverton Parkway station -on the main Paddington line -is only about 30 minutes away.
  • By air: The nearest airports are Exeter and Bristol, both about an hour away.

About Your Hosts

A great knowledge of opera, gardens and business and a wide knowledge of North Devon. They are both keen gardeners, conservationists and supporters of many rural interests, having access to fishing and excellent shooting. They also enjoy golf, antiques and history.

Out and About

  • Walking, horse riding and fishing can be enjoyed on the estate
